How to Make a Turning 6 Baby Quilt Fat Quarters

Hi friends, my proper noun is Kaitlyn of Knot and Thread Design,  and I am a longarm quilter, a pattern author,  a wife, and a hopeless fabric-lover. I have been quilting since I was eleven years former.

This quilt is a perfect project for a kickoff quilter, someone in need of a quick gift, or a young man fabric-lover who's trying to make a petty dent in that fatty quarter stash sitting on her shelves!

I offset spotted this quilt when it had been made past my sweet cousin Jody. She graciously allow me share it. She made a goal to make quilts for all of her nieces and nephews, and thought cut a fat quarter in half was a quick and like shooting fish in a barrel way to practice that!

So here it is:

Fat Quarter Pile Up. All you demand for a slap-up sized lap quilt is 12 fat quarters!

This quilt will finish around 57″ x seventy″.  A great lap size quilt that comes together so rapidly!

I was able to run into up with Holly from Maker Valley to pull this bright fun Fat Quarter Bundle.

This pattern is perfect for large calibration prints. It's besides great if you lot have a focal print you'd like to coordinate other fabrics with. Information technology's a very forgiving quilt and so simply have fun with information technology!

First things beginning: printing your fatty quarters and square up 2 sides (I similar to beginning with the edge opposite the selvage so I can relieve my selvage edges for a special quilt I'g working on.)

I dearest using my Creative Grids xx.5" foursquare ruler to cut out the two ten" x 18" rectangle pieces I need for the quilt. There is little to no waste matter in for this quilt.

You will end upwards with 24 rectangles 10″ x 18″.

Selection iii of the 10" x xviii'' rectangles and cut them in half to requite you (6) x'' ten 9'' rectangles. These will be used to alternate the rectangles, to give you a brick-like upshot.

Lay out your quilt in columns. For the 57″ x 70″ lap size you will have vi columns.

The outset, third, and fifth columns will accept iv whole 10'' x 18'' rectangles.

The second, fourth, and sixth columns will start and end with the ten'' x 9'' half rectangles with three complete ten'' x xviii'' rectangles in between.

Sew the columns together. Then adhere the columns to each other.

You will have an extra ½'' of fabric hanging over the edges of the first, third, and fifth columns. Trim off the excess.

Quilt that baby upward for a perfectly fun throw! For backing you volition need 3 3/4 yards of regular fabric.  If you're using 60″ wide minky, you lot can get abroad with 2 1/iv yards if you're careful.

Here'south a fun Christmas version I pulled for while retreating at Stitch Supply Co.

I used 15 fat quarters for this version to add together just a petty extra variety. I used a couple of actually fun Alexander Henry Christmas prints as my jumping off point and then picked analogous colors and prints to complement them.
